Research
My main research interests are centered around approximate reasoning. Humans excel at reasoning in the face of uncertain (incomplete, vague,...) information and it is the capturing of this ability in artificial systems that holds great promise for a variety of applications from robotics to (the interpretation of) crowd-sourcing and affective computing. I am particularly interested in Computational Intelligence, specifically in the theory and application of (general type-2) fuzzy sets & systems as well as fuzzy measures and integrals. In terms of applications, I am interested in the modelling, aggregation of and reasoning on different sources of uncertain information in the contexts of crowd-sourcing, robotics, ambient intelligent environments (smart homes), affective computing and more generally - applications where reasoning over qualitative information (e.g. sourced from people) and quantitive (measured) information is required.
