Research

My current research concerns User-Interface issues and presenting complex information effectively for clinical decision making.  My research interests are in the effective use of technology in healthcare and education, and the impact of technology on society.

Current Projects

  • My PhD research is on: User-Interface Issues: Presenting Complex Information Effectively for Clinical Decision Making.

The diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer is a complex topic. Recent research at the University of Nottingham into advanced data analysis methods has led to an exciting breakthrough in classification of the disease. However the complexity of the information provides a challenge in communicating this effectively to patients and healthcare staff. Two key research issues are: 1. Investigating presentational methods to adequately communicate representations of uncertainty in complex information. 2. Investigating triangulation of the communication between the computerised decision support system and both (expert) clinicians and (non-expert) patients.
